Bryony Francis

Bryony is a London-based art director and 2D artist, whose work portrays strong women and statements of sexuality that she feels women are often shamed for expressing. Her portraits of women exude strength whilst the viewer observes, reversing the “male gaze” to a “female gaze” as the viewer is now inspected by the portrait’s subject.

She works primarily in pen and acrylic, often including deliberate technical flaws to reflect the variety and imperfect nature of human bodies. Her work often incorporates themes of her own mental and physical disabilities, and rejects the notions of idealised depictions of women.
