Gavin Jay

Gavin studied fine art at Kingston University before becoming a professional musician, touring worldwide with groups such as The Jim Jones Revue and Jim Jones and the Righteous Mind. Throughout that time, he kept his hand in visual arts designing album covers and graphics for his own and various other bands, and in recent years has returned to concentrating on his own art practice.

Influenced by artists such as Max Ernst and Joseph Cornell, and taking in Pop Art, Victoriana and Occultism, he works with found images from antique books and digitally manipulates them to create surrealist collages. The final works are presented as three dimensional shadow boxes, reflecting the presentation aesthetic of the era from which the images originate.

Gavin has participated in various art fairs and group shows in London, and recently had his first solo exhibition at HOK Gallery in Den Haag (Netherlands) which ran Dec 2019-Jan 2020.
