Russ Cast

Russ is a Hampshire-based printmaker, now working exclusively with the linocut relief method.

The low-tech, linocut discipline works perfectly for Russ: his artwork reflects his interest and influences in logo design and early 20th Century advertising; along with other graphically simplified modes of communication. His punchy, striking style shows close reference to the artworks and decoration from past civilisations and cultures, such as Norse, Meso-America and Medieval English.

Russ often employs the reduction technique in his printmaking (where the print block is gradually cut away between colour layers) so his print editions are all short-run (once they’re gone, they’re gone!) The intricate, detailed handmade process means that each print is unique, and there will be tiny differences between all the prints in an edition.
